#1 | Link | A problem with reading subtitles using TTS, Posted 04-24-2008 Quote
Hello, KMPlayer developers,

I've recently noticed a problem while watching a movie with subtitles and using the TTS (Text-To-Speech) function to read the subtitles.
The problem is the following: When there are 2 (or more) lines of subtitles at the same time and there's no punctuation sign on the end of the first one (which normally would create a small speech pause), my bulgarian speech synthesizer doesn't make a pause between the last word on the first line and the first word on the next line and reads them together, which sounds very awful when synthesized. So, I ask you if you could make something that will make a pause between every new line. I don't want to sound bad or something like that, but in MV2Player I didn't experienced such problem - there were pauses between lines, so that's why I think that it could be done.

P.S.: Sorry if this should be in the requests section and not here, but I think that is a bug.

Thank you for your help in advance!

Best wishes!

I've tried it with english subtitles and it sounds all right.

Can you attach the subtitle and spot the exact point of the problem?

I can reproduce it (Spanish in my case). I've attached a subtitles sample and a speech sample (as it is and as it should be). I think k_kolev1985 has described the problem well...

In the sample attached, you will notice the problem in the first and third sentence, both of them have two lines.

"Para ponerle un alto oportuno a condiciones en deterioro" is read as...
"Para ponerle un alto oportunoa condiciones en deterioro". (And that doesn't sound well...).

Hello,

Sorry for not posting earlier, but I almost forgot about this thread that I've started.
How the subtitles are read depends on the synthesizer. Some synthesizers are sensitive about merging of two words and read those as a single word, which in most of the cases sounds bad.
I sea that Pantuflo has provided you with some samples. If you need some more samples - tell me and I'll try to make some recordings and attach them here together with a subtitles sample.

Best wishes!
