To all KMPlayer users
First of all, we’d like to thank all our KMPlayer users for your support.
As you may know, KMPlayer developed by a South Korean engineer and is well known for stable engine and various features and used by millions of users every day.
In order to develop the KMPlayer to the next level to accommodate growing needs from all over the world, Pandora TV, the largest video streaming company in Korea has acquired the technology including the source code and core engine for the KMPlayer from the original developer, Kang Yong-Huee on August, 2007.
The reason why we couldn’t make any formal announcement regarding the acquirement during the last 7 months was because it took a long time for us to fully analyze the source code and the engine as well as there was a request by the original developer and we had to respect his request. We’d like to sincerely apologize for any confusion caused by this delay of announcement.
We noticed many users showed signs of concerns regarding KMPlayer and we were urged to give a formal statement and decided to post this notice.
We’d like to clarify few concerns raised by users.
First, On the question of whether “Will KMPlayer be used for commercial purposes?
KMPlayer has always been released as a freeware and this policy will not change in future as well. We are aware of the fact that KMPlayer has continually been improved by user participation since its release on 2002 till now. Hence, KMPlayer for individual users will remain as a freeware and be released from www.kmplayer.com.
At the current stage, we do not have any plan to create a business out of KMPlayer. Some components of the program may have copyright issue if commercialized and there are some user-participated parts like skins. Therefore, if we ever commercialize the program, it’ll be a totally separate program based on some features of KMPlayer and will be released as a different version from KMPlayer.
Second, regarding forum policy.
KMPlayer forum policy has not changed and will stay the same as it always has been. All members’ account information are not delivered to Pandora TV and we do not keep any personal information. Pandora TV only supports technology, server and network and all running of forum will be decided by the forum committee of 5 people. We will announce the selection method and application process very soon.
Third. Regarding the future of KMPlayer.
KMPlayer is already an international software with millions of users from all over the world. It has been localized in 15 different languages. Our main purpose of investment on KMPlayer technology has been to develop this already superb program into the next level to accommodate users from the global market. We promise to put our best effort to make KMPlayer grow over other players like Window Media Player or RealPlayer.
Lastly, we would like to thank Mr. Kang Yong-Huee for his passion and efforts towards the development of KMPlayer.
